To continue with London throwbacks, Libby and Jennie joined my mother and I for tea on Friday afternoon. We went to a place in downtown called Volta and had a lovely time chatting and enjoying one of our favorite British traditions.

After tea, I continued my British hipster ways and went to the Gifthorse to get a new pair of Toms. To my delights, Gifthorse has added a phenomenal vintage section, and I got a pair of black jorts and a jean skort. Yes, a jean skort. It is super high wasted and embarrassing and I cannot WAIT to rock it. In daily life.

Last night we had a London reunion at Tatu, a Sushi Bar and Grill in Gainesville. It was nice to get together and realize that we are all mostly depressed to be back in Gainesville. It is quite a harsh wake up call to go from living in a real city rich in culture and exciting things to explore only to be forced to return to the US, specifically Gainesville, Florida.

I have already begun the process of convincing my mother to let me return during Christmas break. I do, in fact, have over a month of holiday from university. What else will I do? Hopefully visit Andrew in LA, Seabury in NYC or somehow both.

I’m off to prepare for the first gameday tomorrow! Wow that’s oddly depressing.

This was just about the perfect last night that I could imagine! Kait, Nate, Scott, Libby, Jennie and I headed over to Wembley to watch Team USA take gold in the women’s football final match against Japan. The festivities included a Gator Chomp from UF alum Abby Wambach and of course ended at the McDonald’s on High Street Kensington.

This summer has been quite a trip, and I cannot handle the idea of flying back to the states tomorrow. Hopefully my suitcase won’t zip and I will just have to stay forever.

With my last day rapidly approaching, Libby, Jennie and I went to Sushisamba for a girl’s night. The restaurant is on the 38th floor of the Heron Tower and is rather exceptional. The views are enough to be breathtaking, but the restaurant is also very well decorated and modern. It’s quite the experience.

From one side of the restaurant we could see the Gherkin and the Shard, and from the terrace we could see the city of London alit. It was great spending time with them and taking in the view the city with which I have fallen in love

Yesterday at work, I went over to Hammersmith to meet a mate [Remy I know you’re reading this, so… hi] at the The Crabtree. To get there from the station involved about a mile walk which was made ever more pleasant by the fact that half of it was along the River Thames.

For those of you that know my [lack of] navigation skills, you know this was not the easiest of tasks for me to accomplish. The moment I pop up from a Tube station, panic sets in as my preset Google map makes absolutely no sense when compared the my surroundings. There’s no sun in London, so figuring out north from south is not feasible. I tend to just pick a direction at random and hope for the best.

Rather than the likely options of me (a) dying, (b) getting lost or (c) running of with Remy’s shirt forever, I found my way without [much] error and enjoyed a breezy walk on the water that included sites such as the Hammersmith Bridge as shown above. Though the weather was not as sunny and pleasant as I would have liked, Remy was right about the ‘pub around the corner’ being a pleasant place to meet and we had a nice catch up.

As I mentioned before, there is, for the most part, no sun in London. If you are astute you may be about to ask me, “Meredith, why then is there so much light in this picture?” Well, that is because I have broken and bought yet another photo editing app for my phone. Like I really need to Instagram more pictures… If you don’t follow me yet, you can see even more of my time in London @mererowe on Instagram! It essentially consists of London in square form at this point, and I enjoy it immensely.

Spotted | Identical Twins Part II

This morning started horribly because I saw my first train pull out of the station as I was racing down the stairs, but then I saw the identical twins dressed identically again and suddenly there was a silver lining.

To clarify, these twins are not adorable toddlers. If you didn’t see my earlier blog post about them, they are elderly women that dress in matching outfits down to the accessory and somehow don’t look embarrassed about it.

The first time I noticed them at Gloucester, I hoped it was a joke, but it turns out they actually dress the same on an at least somewhat regular basis. Mind. Blown.

I accidentally woke up today around 5 am and realized how much I am going to miss even the annoying things about London, such as the terrible view from our cramped flat and the sleeplessness that accompanies the sun rising around 4 am daily. It’s such a dreadful thing to realize that I have fallen in love with this city and now must return to an unchanged Gainesville, Florida.

Jennie is right: The easiest solution is to just come back next summer. Let me know if you know an ad firm looking to hire Americans still in university!

Jennie and I found the perfect solution to the Mondays via a restaurant on the Little Venice canal called the Waterway. It boasts a deck with an excellent view appropriate for both warm and cold weather thanks to the multitude of heaters. As we enjoyed the open air on the canal and some expertly crafted cocktails (I went for an old fashioned, of course), we caught up on our weekends as she was away in Amsterdam.

After a nice chat and some plotting for the rest of our week here, we headed home for dinner and the football match. In overtime, USA overcame Canada to secure their spot in the finals! Cannot wait to sport my jersey for USA vs. Japan match this Thursday!
